Your life, three sentences at a time

The most useful Chinese textbook in our house isn't a book. It's yesterday.
Three sentences and a photo
A story in Bamboo Island doesn't start with a blank page. It starts with whatever happened: breakfast, the school run, the dog stealing socks. You write it in Chinese — three sentences is a complete story — add a photo so it's yours, and the app takes care of the rest: pinyin under every line, tap-any-word dictionary, and flashcards for each new word, created automatically.
A real one: the day a tree fell on the Cefiro
This is a story from our family's phone, exactly as the app holds it:
今天,我醒来以后,我抬头看我的车。
Today, after I woke up, I looked up at my car.
我的车在车库里。我看到一棵树的树干掉在我的车上。
My car was in the garage. I saw that the trunk of a tree had fallen onto my car.
A storm, a beloved old Cefiro, and a lesson nobody planned: when we tapped 车库 ("garage"), the dictionary said one thing and the HSK lists said another — so the whole family ended up investigating whether 车库 even counts as curriculum vocabulary. That's the magic. A story about your car becomes a vocabulary investigation no textbook could have assigned.
Your own voice, then a better one
Every story can be read aloud in your own voice. Record it once. Listen. Record it again next week and hear the difference. Pinyin rides along under each line and fades away as you stop needing it — the training wheels come off by themselves.
Why it works
You never memorize your own life. You just remember it. And when your Mandarin material is your memories, review stops feeling like study — it feels like flipping through a photo album that happens to be in Chinese.
